100 Days of Kubernetes
A free, open book for learning Kubernetes one topic at a time. It started as a public challenge: learn something new about Kubernetes every day for 100 days, and write down what you learned. The notes grew into the chapters below, in the order a newcomer needs them.
Every chapter follows the same shape: a short list of resources on the topic, then example notes that explain it with commands and manifests you can run on your own cluster.
Where to start
- New to Kubernetes? Begin with Introduction to Kubernetes, then Kubernetes Architecture and Pods.
- Want a cluster to practise on? Set up a Kubernetes cluster, or run one locally with KinD or K3s.
- Something broken? CrashLoopBackOff walks through the most common pod failure.
What the book covers
- The basics: running pods, ReplicaSets, Deployments, Namespaces and ConfigMaps.
- Networking and storage: Services, Ingress, service meshes and Volumes.
- Packaging and infrastructure as code: Kustomize, Terraform, Crossplane and Helm in three parts, from first chart to templating.
- Cloud native tools: k9s, Knative, GitOps with Argo and Linkerd.
- Observability: Prometheus and writing a Prometheus exporter.
- Going further: Kubernetes Operators, plus hands-on tutorials on serverless, Ingress from scratch and Istio from scratch.
Terms you meet along the way are collected in the Terminology Primer. To read the book from the first page, open the Introduction, or use the table of contents on the left.
